Emily Phillips

Low Brass Technician

Euphonium player Emily Phillips, hails from Sterling, VA. She graduated from James Madison University in August 2016 with a B.M. in Music Education. While at JMU, Emily performed in the euphonium and baritone sections with the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, JMU Brass Band, Massanutten Brass Band, Marching Royal Dukes, Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, and numerous chamber ensembles, as well as performing with and acting as an instructional assistant for the Massanutten Youth Brass Band and serving as a counselor for the JMU Summer Band Camps in 2014. From 2012-2015 she performed at various Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conferences. Emily studied euphonium and baritone with Professor Kevin Stees and conducting with Dr. Stephen Bolstad. 

She is currently the Music Specialist and Choral Director at Sully Elementary School in Sterling, VA, and works with the neighboring Park View High School Marching Band in the visual caption. She has previously held the position of interim director of bands at Trinity Christian School in Fairfax, VA. She has also been a brass consultant for numerous middle and high school concert and marching bands in Loudoun County, as well as serving on the marching band staff with Waynesboro High School and Langley High School. 

Emily was a baritone performer with the Blue Stars in 2013, and aged out with the Blue Stars as a baritone player and featured trombonist in 2015. She joined the Blue Stars Brass Staff following the completion of the Blue Stars Brass internship in 2016, and she is looking forward to continuing her work as a Baritone Tech with this creative and talented team of educators for the 2020 season.
